Ølhallen: start with a Tromsø institution

Best for: Beer and a pub with a long local history

Mack describes Ølhallen as Tromsø’s oldest pub, operating since 1928. The draw is its beer focus and historic setting, so it works well for a drink that does not need an event ticket.

It is a pub rather than a late-night club. Check its current closing time before deciding whether it is the first or last stop of your evening.

Bardus Bar: cocktails and conversation

Best for: A quieter drink near the centre

Bardus Bar is the cocktail side of Bardus Bistro & Bar. Its own destination listing describes drinks using regional ingredients in an informal room. Choose it when you want to talk rather than build the night around a stage.

If dinner at the bistro is also in your plan, check the two spaces separately. Their food service and bar hours are not interchangeable.

Prelaten or Bastard Bar: follow the programme

Best for: Live music, comedy or a specific event

Prelaten is a basement venue with a stage and a quieter seating area; its programme ranges from concerts and stand-up to club nights. Bastard Bar is a smaller live-music venue with a strong focus on bands and local music.

Neither is a fixed experience on every night. Read the calendar, ticket details and door time for the date you are in town, then choose the artist or format you actually want.

Storgata Camping: make it a group activity

Best for: An easy social plan with indoor minigolf

Despite its name, Storgata Camping is a bar and indoor minigolf venue, not accommodation. It also lists events, so the atmosphere may differ from an ordinary quiet pub night.

Check that it is open on your evening and whether a group should book. The venue’s own page is the right place for current game prices and event notices.

Plan the walk back before the first drink

Keep the return simple: note your hotel entrance, the walking route and whether you will need a bus or taxi. Snow, ice and late hours can make an apparently short trip more awkward than it looks in daylight.

If you have an early whale boat or a long winter tour the next morning, a single good stop may be the better night. Check local rules and the venue’s age requirement before buying a ticket.

Common questions

FAQ

Where should I go for a first drink in Tromsø?

Ølhallen is a clear starting point for beer and local pub history. Choose Bardus Bar if cocktails and conversation suit you better.

Where can I hear live music in Tromsø?

Check Prelaten and Bastard Bar’s current calendars. A listed venue does not mean a concert is on every night.

Is there a nightlife option for a group?

Storgata Camping combines a bar with indoor minigolf. Confirm its opening day, event and group arrangements before going.

Are Tromsø bars open late every night?

No. Hours vary by venue and day, and holidays can change them. Check the venue’s current page for your date.

Do I need tickets for Tromsø nightlife?

A normal bar visit may not need one, but concerts, comedy and club events can. Check the exact event listing and any age rule.
